Following a grave crisis of the European vineyards, at the end of the 19th century, caused by the Phylloxera, and which lasts for more than 30 years, the wine-growers and the scientists discovered a new path: hybridization.
Georges COUDERC became one of the most renowned hybridizer.
In 1880, he created his grapevine nursery and in 1885 he opened the first modern grapevine nursery by pioneering the use of a grafting machine.
Our days, various rootstocks created by George COUDERC, are still used and commercialised around the world.
